CAE/TLH BFF

The dudes over at Crude As Elvis rule. They hooked us up last week with some fun stuff, so we figured we'd return the favor as best we can. Thanks again fellas. We'll raise some hell real soon.

Ya heard?

PROGRESS IS RELATIVE

Once again my sportster suffered on account of my curiosity. For the past couple of weeks I have wondered what my bike would look like in a nice flat red. My purple flakey paint job was an old hat. That, and nothing can keep my interest long enough to last any amount of time in my garage. So Friday night I pulled the thing apart and started sanding. By Saturday it was time to start priming and painting. Unfortunately, the shop I had previously used to paint my bike was unavailable and I have yet to invest in a small air compressor. So out came the foam rollers.

It took a hell of a lot longer than spraying and required a ton of sanding. But overall, it worked. The point wasn't to have a perfect paint job. I just wanted to see what it would look like. So yet again I have another ghetto paint job. A five yard faker. Now I just need someone with some patience, that I don't have, to do a nice flat red paint job for me. But that will have to wait. It's too nice this time of year to be without a bike, or anytime for that matter.

ENVY

My uncle picked up his newest project this week. A 56 ford pickup. Most of the hard work is already done on her. Still have to put the rear end together, run brakes, electrical, etc... The part I'm most excited about with the truck is the power. Gone is the old worn out Ford v8. In its place, a Chevy 5.7 that was used in the K&N Pro Series last year. It's gonna be a fun little truck. Can't wait to get my hands dirty on this one.

QUICK UPDATE

We know its been unusually quiet around here lately. It's been hectic in the TLH camp for the last few weeks. It's for good reason, trust us. We've got some really great stuff coming up, features and interviews with Grim Cycle Salvage, Atlas Speed and Custom, Rob Thomas of Psycho Tattoo, and some other things that we're gonna keep under wraps for the time being.

Now on to some business...

Merch - If you ordered stuff from us, every last order has been filled and shipped. We did however run out of decals and stickers, if your ordered a hat or buttons or both, we went ahead and shipped your stuff short of the stickers. But don't worry, we kept your address on file and when we get these back in stock, they'll go out to you right away.

Speaking of merch... we have 6 hats left in stock, once they're gone, that's it. No more... unless you badger us to death about it. The next run is going to be a different design and a different color, we gotta keep things fresh. So snatch 'em up while there's a few left.

T-shirts are coming, its just taking longer than expected to get everything lined up, but hang tight.

Don't forget to mark your calendars for June 2nd at Big Daddy's Cycle in Gloucester, VA for our first annual get together to benefit CHKD. It's gonna be a lot of fun. Door prizes and raffles from good folks like Lowside Magazine, Lick's Cycles, Kundratic Customs, Silver Street Supply, Metro Skate Shop, Haifley Bros, Zombie Performance and more!

TEAM BRETT

Our buddy Brett is heading out to Rockingham Dragway today with his evil sportster. Not with the bike in tow, or shoved in the back of a van, but in the saddle. Tools, tent and sleeping bag strapped on the back, making the five+ hour trip ON the bike he plans to race. That's doin' it.

He recently had the motor punched out to 1250cc as well as a new carb, chain drive, and some other fun stuff. She's a mean one for sure. If you're down that way this weekend and see this kid around, give him a hi-five and buy him a round, tell him we put you up to it. He's good people and will keep you laughing.

So, Good luck out there dude! Kill em all, get that wallet fat and bring us back a t-shirt.

A LOOK INSIDE BILTWELL

Biltwell. A name that, in this community, needs no introduction. You or someone you know has a set of bars, grips, a helmet, t-shirt, etc... And for good reason. They are a bunch of guys and girls that really care about what they do. Nothing is an afterthought or half-assed. Nothing but quality and service all around. It's super easy to back people like that. Bill was nice enough to take some time and tell us a little more about Biltwell and Chop Cult last week. Hope you enjoy!

AMERICAN ZOMBIE

Since an early age, Steffan of Zombie Performance has had a fascination with the mechanical, a love for steel. By the age of 14 he was working on small engines. Later, he moved onto fiddling with hot rods and doing body work. That's where his love of fabrication began to grow. He kept other various jobs but kept finding his way back to small engine work. "I started doing performance mods and porting to chainsaws for my employers and decided to try to build my own business doing that. Once the economy took a dump and all the loggers were out of work, that idea got canned."

Most people would have accepted this as the end to the dream. But he didn't. Steffan is the type of dude that cannot be held down. He started building bars and hard parts for himself. When he would tire of a design, he would sell it, and they would always sell. People took notice...

AND THE WINNER IS...

First of all, we can't thank you enough for the many great art submissions for the t-shirt contest. You all really made it difficult for us to decide on a clear winner. But after a bit of deliberation, we've come up with our top choice...

First Place:
Iason Sarris who is an insanely gifted illustrator and world traveler, hailing all the way from Australia, sent us this totally righteous skull design. We really can't express how fortunate we feel to have Iason contribute to our contest. Check out what he whipped up for us...

There were a good handful of other entries certainly worthy of consideration, so we opened up a second and third place

Second Place:
Kris Davie doubled down with two killer submissions, one of which most of you have already seen quite a bit, the rad helmet design. He also cranked out a cool Zombie Hank themed design for us, that may or may not be a slight poke at a popular TV show. Check 'em out...

Thrid Place:
Josh Stroder sent us this great looking design, Josh is a great graphic artist, and we also did a feature on his bike not long ago.

We feel really lucky to have such great talent willing to contribute to our cause. We love all of these designs so much that will be using them all for different things in the near future. We're working out the details for worthwhile prizes for our second and third place winners. We'll be in touch soon!

Now, when will shirts be available you ask? Not sure yet. We are working out the details now on finding a reliable screen printer who can handle the detail of Iason's art. Once we know we've found someone reliable we will post pre-order sales for the shirts. Thanks again to everyone who entered!

CHOP, DROP... THEN ROLL

Boyd Jordan is a 24 year old, self-taught builder/fabricator from Memphis, TN. He saved his '65 Chevy C-10 from certain doom, rescuing it from the hands of an unskilled "chop shop". He tells us that the truck is bagged and has a 5-inch body drop with a lifted bed. The Chevy still gets her power from the 250 c.i. straight six and 3-speed manual, only now with a custom twin stick shifter. In addition, the truck also sports a custom built flame-thrower that'll toast your marshmallows  a full 14ft. from the rear bumper. Aside from the C-10, Boyd's builds also include a cool little mini-chopper, and just days ago he wrapped up a finely executed Harley chop.

DJ KINSLEY, AN AMERICAN CRAFTSMAN

DJ Kinsley is a true American Craftsman, there are no other words to describe this man's talent. His capabilities range from intricate iron work including doors, hand rails and furniture as well as fabricating and assembling some amazing motorcycles. Wild choppers to custom mini bikes, and all points in between, nothing is out of the realm of possibility with talent like DJ's.

We caught up with DJ to find out a little more about his background and to give us a little insight about himself and his work, here is what he had to say...
